CaptionPilot is in beta. This policy is a good-faith description of how the product handles data today, written in plain language. It is not legal advice and will receive a full legal review before public paid launch.
What CaptionPilot does
CaptionPilot captures the system audio you choose to capture with the desktop app, transcribes it in real time, corrects gaming and streamer-specific terms, and displays the corrected captions in your OBS overlay.
Audio
- Audio is captured only while you run a capture session in the desktop app — you start and stop it.
- Audio is streamed to our transcription provider (Deepgram) to produce captions. CaptionPilot does not keep your audio by default.
- Correction Lab can record transcription sessions for your own review, but only when you explicitly opt in from your dashboard.
Transcripts and corrections
- Caption text is processed in real time to apply corrections and deliver captions to your overlay.
- Correction metadata (for example which rules applied, confidence scores, and usage time for billing) is stored with your account to operate the service and improve your corrections.
- Feedback and Correction Lab data you create is stored with your account and is visible only to you (and to us for operating the service).
Data & AI transparency
- Transcription is performed by Deepgram. The Deepgram API key lives on our servers — it is never sent to your browser or overlay.
- An optional AI correction fallback (currently OpenAI) can review ambiguous corrections. When enabled, it receives a small amount of caption text as context — never your audio. The OpenAI API key also stays server-side.
- If the AI fallback is disabled, fails, or times out, corrections come entirely from local deterministic rules.
- You control custom vocabulary, presets, and which features are enabled.
Account data
We store your email, display name, plan/subscription state, and product settings (overlay configuration, presets, dictionaries). Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store full card numbers.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't publish your transcripts, recordings, or beta application details.
- We don't claim compliance certifications we don't hold — CaptionPilot is a beta product and has not completed SOC 2, ISO, or similar audits.
